A restrained nocturnal study in ensemble proportion, Midnight Blue approaches the small jazz group as an architectural form rather than a documentary performance event. The recording is conceived as a unified conceptual structure in which tempo, spacing, tonal density, and instrumental exchange operate with measured internal balance. Harmonic movement remains deliberate and understated, allowing silence, phrasing, and intervallic contrast to shape the work’s atmosphere more than overt virtuosity.
Created through human artistic direction in collaboration with artificial intelligence, the project treats artificial intelligence strictly as an analytical and generative instrument used to examine pattern relationships, ensemble behavior, formal symmetry, and long range structural continuity. Its function remains subordinate to human aesthetic judgment, historical interpretation, and curatorial intent. The result is framed not as a literal studio session, but as a historically informed archival construction examining the language of postwar modern jazz through abstraction, proportion, and tonal restraint.
