Tone Without Surface is constructed as a single formal inquiry into balance, density, and controlled resistance. The recording unfolds as a continuous argument, where sound is shaped through proportion rather than emphasis, and interaction replaces display. Entries are deliberate, silences are active, and each gesture exists in relation to the whole. The ensemble functions as a unified structure, allowing tension to accumulate through spacing, register, and restraint rather than volume or velocity.

This work is a conceptual ensemble recording created through human artistic direction and artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is employed strictly as a formal analytical and generative instrument, used to examine pattern, proportion, ensemble behavior, and long form balance. All aesthetic judgment, historical awareness, and structural intent remain governed by human direction. The result is presented as an archival object aligned with early European jazz thought, where clarity, pressure, and internal coherence take precedence over narrative or spectacle.
